CHARTER COUNCIL ENDORSEMENTS

The Charter Committee of Cincinnati is pleased to announce the following endorsements for the 2009 Cincinnati City Council election:

CHARTER OPPOSES ISSUE 9: ANTI-TRANSIT CHARTER AMENDMENT

The Charter Committee is opposed to Issue 9: the proposed charter amendment that would require a referendum or referendums before the city invests money in mass transportation projects and planning. The charter is the city‘s version of the constitution. Amendments to the charter should be reserved to changing the basic structure and function of city government; they should not be used as a veto on individual issues. The Charter Committee also opposed the ban on red light cameras as a frivolous amendment to the city charter.

CHARTER ENDORSES SCHOOL BOARD SLATE

Charter endorsed candidates for Cincinnati School Board:

  • Melanie Bates
  • Eileen Cooper Reed
  • Vanessa White

CHARTER OPPOSES ISSUE 8: WATER WORKS AMENDMENT

Charter opposes Issue 8 which forces the sale of the water works to approval by the voters in a general election.

CHARTER ENDORSES HAMILTON COUNTY LEVIES

Charter endorses the following levies:

  • Cincinnati Public School Levy Renewal (Issue 52)
  • Public Library Levy (Issue 7)
  • Museum Center Levy (Issue 6)
  • Developmental Disabilities Levy (Issue 5)
  • Family Services and Treatment Levy (Issue 4)
